” Al Diwani “
The Diwani typeface is my absolute favorite of all and it is the one that got me in to calligraphy when i was just 12 years old! I started With the Basic Diwani then moved to a more complex form of it, Al Diwani Al jali, where decorations and accents are used heavily to fill the gaps between letters.
Diwani’s interlacing and rounded letters makes it the best for art pieces where words form a certain shape; However, it is sometimes criticized for low readability. Yet it was not intended for lengthy blocks of text anyway, it was designed to be used in The Sultan’s correspondence for headers decoration and signatures. The basic Diwani is believed to have been created by Turkish calligrapher (Ibrahim Muneef) for Al Sultan Mohammed II back in 1453.
