“Al Thuluth”
“Al Thuluth” is vastly believed to be the hardest to master among all Arabic types. It is also the reference for many of them and the scale with which the skill of Al Khattat (The Calligrapher) is measured, as those who are not capable of perfectly drawing it using the traditional tools are not considered a real Khattat no matter how good they are at drawing any other font!
Despite the complexity of Al Thuluth, it is at the same time very flexible where one sentence can be written in many ways and still retain the basic shape of the letters.
Due to its complexity and the long time it takes to be drawn; its use has been limited to letter heads and books titles and short sentences.
Al Thuluth has been around for more than 1500 years; its basics were first documented 1102 years by Ibn Muqla and it is still being followed until now…
